Ah, award season is in full swing. While the rich and famous pat each other on the back and hand out awards, we watch for our favourites to win and hope to get a glimpse of upcoming fashion. Last night was the Critics’ Choice Award celebrating the best in film. These awards are not televised, but are just as important as the Oscars because the votes are coming from critics themselves.
Luckily there were myriad photographers to capture some fabulous fashion moments.
A big trend is to opt for lighter shades – either completely white or pale grays. We LOVE what Jessica Chastain, Leslie Mann and Marion Cotillard wore.
Emily Blunt wore the next biggest red carpet trend, which is, of course, red. The open shoulders and stunning beadwork make this dress a huge win.
Diane Kruger has yet to show up in a miss. This gown reminds me of a fabulous vacation dress! Take us with you, Diane.
First I want to say that I’m not much into award shows. I watch them for the red carpet and then for the opening monologues. In this case, two of my favourite human women, Amy Poehler and Tiny Fey were stellar as hosts. They didn’t pull any punches, especially where Bill Cosby was concerned, but I digress. As for the fashion portion, the stars did not disappoint…well maybe one or two did, but who cares?
It was hot in Los Angeles and apparently the A.C. wasn’t working at the venue, which is why some of your favourite celebs seemed a little shiny. Despite that, there were some pretty awesome fashion choices. I loved Emma Stone’s Lanvin jumpsuit, she looked so sleek and Sienna Miller’s Miu Miu gown was to die for. Here are some of the best looks of the evening.
Here’s a roundup of things you need to know from the world of fashion…
Rihanna held her first annual Diamond Ball to raise money for her Clara Lionel Foundation (named after her grandparents). The charity raises money for health, arts and education around the world. The star-studded charity event was filled with fabulous fashion moments, including Rihanna’s stunning Zac Posen gown. Kim Kardahian, Ellen Pompeo and Salma Hayak were in attendance!
Gucci creative director Frida Giannini and CEO Patrizio di Marco have resigned their posts. The reasons for theses departures aren’t noted publicly, but Gucci has always had trouble with keeping their top people. Remember the Tom Ford debacle? The company has stated that it is actively searching for replacements. Riccardio Tisci of Givenchy fame is currently being courted.
Julia Roberts is the new face of Givenchy and she looks absolutely amazing. She’s bare-faced and high-fashion. How much do you love it?
Is it just me or does World MasterCard Fashion Week get better season after season? I was so impressed with the spring/summer 2015 collections that I really couldn’t choose which one was my favourite. I loved the fringe fest at Mackage that offered black and white ensembles (many in leather, of course) with splashes of cobalt and vibrant pink. The stellar Narces collection was out of a fairy tale featuring dreamy cocktail dresses and gowns. Pink Tartan took a cue from 1970s glam – think Studio 54 and Jerry Hall. Matthew Gallagher offered original shapes in luxe fabrics. Needless to say, this will be the WMCFW to top. And believe me, we can’t wait until next season.
Here’s a snippet of our favourite looks from WMCFW spring/summer 2015:
