As always the Spring 2012 Couture collections were spectacular, but it was Jean Paul Gaultier’s show that had everyone buzzing. Gaultier paid homage to late troubled chanteuse, Amy Winehouse and her eccentric style. Models with retro beehives and black lined cat eyes strutted down the runway in true diva fashion.
Jean Paul Gaultier’s couture show used styles from various eras and cultures to portray a strong, carefree woman – one that Gaultier, himself, admires. Using Winehouse’s songs (sung by an acapella quartet) as a soundtrack to his colourful, quirky collection appeared to be the perfect farewell. Winehouse died of alcohol poisoning last year and spent her whole career battling drug addiction. The singer’s father, Mitch Winehouse, called the tribute “in bad taste” on his Twitter account.
What do you think? Was Jean Paul Gaultier’s Spring Couture collection a triumphant homage or in poor taste?
Some of you may be in loving relationships while others might be scouring Internet dating sites looking for the perfect mate. In either case, whether you like it or not, Valentine’s Day is on its way. Romance aside, it’s that time of year when everything is adorned with a little heart and who doesn’t love that? Pink things, red things and little naked babies with love-poisoned arrows are pointing in your direction.
In honour of February 14th’s fast approach, The Peacock Parade has set up a Valentine’s Day Boutique filled with jewelry that any woman would love. Send the link to your significant other or buy something sparkly for yourself.
Here are some other heart-y items to get you in the V-Day spirit.
Like Jay-Z, Kanye West and Eve before her, Nicki Minaj is en route to releasing her own clothing line. Rap’s human Barbie doll is ready to invade the world of fashion sometime during this year. Her manager, Cortez Bryant, has said that a clothing line is a top priority.
Minaj already has her own MAC lipstick colour (in pink, of course) and OPI nail polish so why not make a clothing line? Her wild wigs and colourful outfits always garner attention wherever she goes.
The singer’s style is a hybrid of costume and sexy which is likely what her clothing line will be like. We’ll see if she decides to do a high end collection with runway show, a la Kanye or if she creates a line with more mass appeal. I’m expecting the latter and I can’t wait!
