After the recent resurgence of vintage 70s fashion house, Halston, there seems to be major troubles with its team, already. Over the past weekend, it was reported by Women’s Wear Daily and Vogue that Halston runway designer Marios Schwab was given the ax. The young designer was said to be doing a great job in keeping a disco feel to the collection while also adding some modernity. Dragging a fashion house through four decades is no easy feat. They also cut ties with investor and big shot movie producer, Harvey Weinstein.
In another shocker that rocked Halston, executives “severed ties with Sarah Jessica Parker” reports The Washington Post, who was the creative director and president of Halston’s diffusion line, Halston Heritage. She was only given the position back in 2010. Parker was seen publicly wearing the Heritage collection, including the famous white dress she wore in the Sex and the City 2 movie.
Halston has said they will not be showing a Spring/Summer 2012 collection at New York Fashion Week as they want to focus exclusively on their Halston Heritage line…without Parker. Harsh!
There is also question about whether the Fall 2011 Halston collection will even ship to stores. I hope they get everything sorted over there, if not, it may just make more sense to lay Halston to rest once and for all.
Desperate to stay ahead of the trends, all my fashion conscious friends asked me what women are wearing in London. Luckily I kept my eyes peeled at all times so that I, too, could bring back some European flair on the streets of Toronto. There are some definite styles and items heading this way so to help you all stay ahead of the curve, here’s a list of what London’s chicest ladies had on.
Trend 1: Accordion Skirts
I saw women wearing these cute skirts dressed up and dressed down, paired with oversized t-shirts and sleek cardigans. They have a vintage quality that makes these skirts so adorable.
Trend 2: Tie Front Tops
Women of all ages had these on everywhere! Some of them were buttoned-down, while others were sleeveless or plain coloured, but all of them had a little tie front at the bottom. I even saw people wearing them with the accordion skirt.
Trend 3: Scarves
The weather can change pretty rapidly in London, which is why all the smart women layer. Many women were wearing lightweight scarves in the summer that they can easily remove when it’s hot (especially on the Tube).
Trend 4: Opaque Tights
While many of us were happy to pack away our thick black tights for the summer, London women weren’t ready to say goodbye. Even on the hottest days, there were always plenty of women were wearing black opaque tights with summer dresses and sandals or even underneath denim shorts.
Everything was served on gorgeous Paul Smith bone china. The tea was perfect – I opted for chocolate mint truffle – and my friends and I were in heaven. They brought us a selection of tiny delectable sandwiches, savoury skewers and canapés, which the staff happily replenishes if you want more. But the pièce de résistance came on the three-tiered platter of Spring/Summer 2011 ready-to-wear fashion inspirations.
Here are some of the beautiful, not to mention delicious, selections from this amazing high tea and their famous inspirations.
When we head out to the gym or hit the pavement for a good run, we often pull out our old Rolling Stones t-shirt and sweat pants. But sometimes the mood strikes to kick up our workout wear a notch and why not? There may be a cutie lifting weights a few feet from you!
Make sure you get well fitting, high performance gear that will help you work out at an optimum level. Look for fabrics that breathe and offer great support for you body especially in a sports bra and running shoes.

Summer is in full effect meaning BBQ season has officially begun and it always seems to be the more casual events that throw us into a frenzy when it comes to picking the most appropriate outfit. Let’s assume that your drinks, hors d’oeuvres, and barbecue are all ready to go, now it’s time to focus on what is most important – your outfit! Keeping in mind that barbecues are generally on the more informal side, its important to keep things casual. After all, overdressing is the first cousin to trying too hard. You want to keep your look effortless and stylish. It is important to keep your outfit lightweight, so that you can stay cool in the heat and be able to move around easily. Another important thing to keep in mind is not to wear anything that would give you awkward tanlines, so no cut-outs! Also, stay away from too many accessories – keep it casual and simple. In terms of footwear, save your heels and platforms for evening events. Stick with flats and sandals – you do not want to be sinking in the grass! If you need a little more inspiration, here are some celebrity looks that we think would be perfect:
Don’t forget your shades and sunblock!
